Whodunnit and Whowunnit? – 2024 Ngaio Marsh Awards
From a house in the Cashmere Hills, a storyteller and artist named Ngaio became one of the world’s most famous novelists in the mid-20th century. Many decades later her stories are still beloved worldwide, and new generations of Kiwi writers have taken the Dame’s baton and run with it, using tales of crime, mystery, and thrills to examine people and place.
Join us for a criminally good nightcap to The Bookshop Detectives, as Louise and Gareth Ward MC the presentation of the 2024 Ngaio Marsh Awards, the fifteenth season of our national prizes for excellence in crime, mystery, thriller, and suspense writing. Which of this year’s prime suspects will join a gang of past winners that includes the likes of Paul Cleave, Dame Fiona Kidman, Neil Cross, Michael Bennett, Jacqueline Bublitz, JP Pomare, and Charity Norman?
With three categories up for grabs this year – Best Kids/YA, Best First Novel, and Best Novel – there are many strong suspects. Our Bookshop Detectives will interrogate some Ngaios finalists live in person, including Vanda Symon, Jennifer Lane, Claire Baylis, Diane Robinson, and Aaron Topp; others may be questioned remotely.
